I started my career in law enforcement with the Nevada Department of Corrections back in March 2017 when I was 21 years old, and honestly, time’s flown by since then. I got into Jiu-Jitsu later than I wish I would’ve, but the biggest lesson I learned early on was that the hardest part is just showing up. Once you get through the door, everything starts changing for the better. In January 2023, I decided to really take training seriously and test myself in competition. That year I competed in four local grappling tournaments and ended up tied for 1st place in NOGI for most points scored through Grappling X, which definitely motivated me to keep pushing myself further. My goal moving forward is to keep competing as much as possible, whether it’s local tournaments or traveling out of state to challenge myself against new people. One of the best parts of Jiu-Jitsu is the community. No matter your belt level, everyone’s there to learn, work hard, and have a good time rolling. If you’re thinking about trying Jiu-Jitsu, don’t overthink it. Just show up. Yeah, it can feel overwhelming at first, especially when you’re watching techniques thinking there’s no way you’ll ever pull them off, but with repetition and time on the mats, it all starts clicking.
